Bioengineering at the University of California, Riverside

The Mission. The mission of the new Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Riverside focuses on two interrelated themes:

  1. Advancing Bioengineering research, particularly in BioCellular Engineering, and,
  2. Preparing the future leadership in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering and and related fields.

The Difference is the Faculty. The young program has been built on a platform of excellence which is reflected in the quality of the interdisciplinary faculty. Two of the faculty members are in the National Academy of Engineering. Many have been elected to the College of Fellows of AIMBE and elevated to Fellow in the AAAS. The newest members have been recognized with NIH Pathway to Independence and NSF Career Awards.

BIGBe BIG. The Bioengineering Interdepartmental Graduate (BIG) program is exceptional with an additional 30 faculty across UCR, enhancing research opportunities for their students. A network of research centers, including the newly established Center for Bioengineering Research (CBR), provides extensive support for their research programs with core capabilities in genomics, bioimaging, bioinformatics, proteomics, nanotechnology, analytical chemistry and stem cell technology. And BIG is one of the few biomedical engineering programs where the graduate students can take non-clinical medical school courses alongside of the medical students.

All of this culminates into a truly exceptional educational and research program to produce the best graduates for future advancements in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology. To learn more, contact bioeng@engr.ucr.edu.
