Welcome Professor Park to UCR
Welcome Professor Hyle Park!
The Department of Bioengineering and the BIG Program are pleased to welcome their newest faculty member, Assistant Professor B. Hyle Park. Professor Park brings with him a unique expertise in optical coherence tomography (OCT). This technique has many applications in medicine including cardiology and ophthalmology. Currently Dr. Park has two major areas of research in OCT; application of polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography for non-destructive quantitative assessment of nerve myelination, and; detection of slight transient structural changes associated with action potential propagation as a means to optically record nerve activity in a non-contact manner.
Dr. Park received his M.S. and Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Irvine and his B.S. in physics from Caltech. He will be completing his position as Iinstructor and Assistant in Physics and Biomedical Optics at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School through 2008.
Dr. Park is also a 2007 recipient of the prestigious NIH Pathway to Independence Award.
