Profs Vullev and Gryko put vitamin B12 to work for bioinspired catalysis

August 22, 2018

Vullev

Vitamin B12 and is an excellent safe natural product for biomimetic and bioinspired catalysts. The complexity of Its chemistry, however, makes it immensely challenging to covalently attach this vitamin to materials or other molecules, which limits its utility. A collaboration between Prof. Dorota Gryko, from the Polish Academy of Sciences and Prof. Val Vullev from UCR led to new chemical means not only for covalent derivatization of vitamin B12, but also for tuning its electronic and optical properties. The report of these discoveries is published in Chem. Eur. J. (DOI: 10.1002/chem.201801807), and was selected to be featured as a frontispiece ( DOI: 10.1002/chem.201884164).
