Professors Victor G. J. Rodgers and Byron Ford (UCR School of Medicine) were awarded a $390,000 NIH grant to develop technology to enhance flux in cerebral tissue for patients with severe ischemic stroke and thereby reducing brain tissue swelling. The technology will also deliver neuregulin-1 to prevent secondary swelling and neuronal injury in brain tissues. The successful study would aid in the development of a new FDA-approved device for the treatment of ischemic stroke in humans. The grant begins September 1, 2018 and continues through August 31, 2020.
