Riverside, Ca –

A UCR delegation led by Chancellor Kim Wilcox, Associate Chancellor Christine Victorino, and vice provost for international affairs, Kelechi Kalu visited China on March 25-30, 2018. The purpose of the visit was to further existing and identify new opportunities for collaborations in research and education with Universities in China, particularly in Anhui Province. After a half-day meeting with the leaders of the education department of Anhui province, the delegation visited 6 universities in Hefei, Anhui: University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Anhui Medical University, Hefei University of Technology, Anhui University, Hefei University and Anhui Agriculture University. At USTC, Dr. Hu gave a lecture entitled “Bioengineering at UCR: Synergistic Integration of Biomedicine and Science/Engineering”, highlighting the research and education endeavors of our department. With a packed room of close to 200 attendees, his talk was well-received and generated a great deal of interest for academic exchange between our department and its counterpart at USTC.

In addition to visiting the Universities in Hefei, Dr. Hu also led leaders of the UR school of medicine, Dean Deborah Deas, Associate Dean for Research David Lo, and Associate Dean for Education Paul Lyons, on a tour of two prominent hospitals in China: Jingling Hospital, a teaching hospital of Nanjing University, and Ruijin Hospital, a teaching hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University. During the visits to these hospitals, potential collaborations between these hospitals and SOM/bioengineering were identified.
