AMP-activated Kinase (AMPK) plays an important role in regulating energy and maintaining cardiac health. Diseases such as arthrosclerosis and obesity can be controlled and eradicated by understanding and controlling the molecular metabolic sensors of the AMPK signal pathway. Interestingly, AMPK activation is initiated by seemingly diverse inputs. The aims of this research are to identify specific mechanisms and model the transient pathways for this system for well-known system inputs to; 1) elucidate the common factors of the system and fundamental mechanistic properties, 2) determine appropriate system parameters for the process, and, 3) approximate the process for prediction of impact for potential genetic modifications.
